An average of 3500 calories is very high because people trekking the north pole need 6000 calories.Do you see why your north pole example has absolutely no relevance? Perhaps if people trekking the north pole needed 3500 calories it would be relevant, but 6000 is close to double 3500.

Eh, I hear ya. Been an open-source enthusiast for more than a decade now, and one thing that frequently stands out to me is how quite a number of websites in the community take good design for granted. "Content is King". True, but if a medium is hard to read or an eyesore, that makes it harder for a reader to efficiently absorb it. Readability matters more than it's given credit for in these instances.
